CARRY ON

Why did I not know about this?

How can this gem have been released in April this year (my month of birth I might add) and nobody has told me about it? I get emails from every PR Firm in this Country and beyond and still I find out about it by accident...

Anyhow, enough ranting.

This may just be my greatest discovery in 2010. Huge call I realise but I travel a lot so a carry bag dedicated to transporting my most prized possessions will most certainly be the top of my list for Santa.

This gorgeous (not so) new shoe bag is the perfect gift (or necessity) for the shoe aficionado you know and love. It fits four pairs of high heels and has an accessory compartment as well. Bless you Peep Toe. Love, love, love!

Want it? Get it here.

ARE THESE THE HOTTEST SHOES OF 2010?

I hate to 'OMG' you but OMG! These might just be THE hottest shoes to surface in 2010.

Ever since Dakota Fanning strutted the red carpet at the Twighlight Premier in June wearing these Christian Louboutin clou noeud spiked sling back pumps I have coveted them.

Only Louboutin could rough up sensible beige & make it look so spectacular.

As always, there's good news & bad news. Good news is they've just landed @ Jean Brown. Bad news is they'll cost you every cent of that shoe money you've been stashing @ $1,325AUD.

They're worth it people, these are the vintage Louboubtin's you'll pass onto your daughter in years to come. Well. That's what I'm telling myself anyway...

MANOLO'S NEW SHOES

Shoe super hero Manolo Blahnik made a grand appearance at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills on the weekend for the launch and signing of his new and delightfully gorgeous book Manolo’s New Shoes.

Shoe aficionados eagerly awaited Blahnik's arrival at the shoe department of Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills and he didn't disappoint.

Proudly taking the limelight in a dapper purple suit, bow tie and a pair of self-designed slip-on fuchsia shoes, the icon put his mark on books and shoes alike in what would have been a little slice of heaven for shoe-lovers.

‘It was not my idea at all to do another book,’ Manolo said to the press.

‘It was the publisher- they did so well with the first one!’

I'm so glad that he did, it's the perfect way to indulge in your favourite shoes - without the price tag.

888 MADISON AVENUE - RL MECCA

Oh dear, there is nothing quite like Ralph Lauren's new flagship store @ 888 Madison Avenue, New York City.

The first exquisite NYC flagship store is dedicated to women's wear & Ralph Lauren home.

A grand staircase ascends to all floors, creating a sweeping viewpoint adorned with custom sconces, limestone steps & hand wrought French metal handrails inspired by the grand New York residences of the Astor & Dukes.

Beam me up & take me there. Love!

YES, WE'RE OPEN

It's wonderful when shoe love is immortalized. Courier Mail cartoonist Bentley pays homage to the red Jimmy Choo's:

"A WHO'S who of the architectural & business world turned out this week for a knees up at the new offices of that mob with the challenging name, HBO+EMTB.

Associate Director & keen shoe lover Tracey Gillinder led the charge with a fair sprinkling of the state's pollies turning out to boot.

Deputy Premier Paul Lucas delivered an encouraging speech. He was awarded a bicycle hat with the Firm's logo on front for his trouble.

Gillinder, a good mate of model Tara Moss, was joined by company MD Kevin Fitzgerald and directors Jane Sorby & Kent Exell.

Also on the guest list were Anthony Payne of Telstra, Matthew Lawson of South Bank Corporation, Lisa Watt & Tracey Harrip from Allens, Arup's Brisbane principal Paul Wallis along with Paul Simpson & Cameron McDougall of All State Home Loans."

PRESENTING THE 'ISHI' - ONLY IN JAPAN

Only in Japan: Imagine a strappy sandal crossed with a ballerina's pointe shoe.

According to the NY Daily News Walter Steiger's Ishi wedges, which made a splash on the Akris Spring 2011 runway during Paris Fashion Week, are no more uncomfortable than high heels. At least according to Paul Steiger, the designer's son, who conversed with some of the models who wore them.

"The wedge gives the impression that the weight is on the toes, but I talked to the models and they said they walked in them really easily," Steiger told the News in an interview from Paris. "One model who was a ballet dancer said she loved the feeling of the shoes."

The shoes, made of soft calf leather with a wooden wedge, have a Japanese influence and indeed, the word "ishi" means "stone" in Japanese, he explains.

The feeling of standing on a smooth stone at the beach is what inspired his father to design this shoe, he said.

SHOE A DAY: MARC JACOBS PUMP

Ah Marc Jacobs we love you. These little numbers are one of my staples.

While the man, to my knowledge, is the only designer to slap a pair of horns onto a ballet flat (thanks for that BTW Qantas confiscated them - the only person I know to have her shoes classified as lethal weapons prior to boarding an International flight), he can do a classic like nobodies business.

Lovingly procured @ Maryons in Queensland.

SHOE A DAY: ESCADA KITTEN HEEL

I am asked quite regularly how many shoes I actually own. My answer is always the same; I don't know but a lot.

Honestly, I am scared to count them. What if I had to admit that I may have too many. And how many constitutes too many?

In the spirit of spring cleaning & not merely wearing my favourites du jour, I am committing to a shoe a day until I have worn my entire menagerie.

Today's is a gorgeous pair of pink Escada kitten heels procured in the US around nine years ago on sale for $238USD. While this sounds fabulous, it was during the time our dollar was around 61c so not as fabulous a purchase as it would be right now with our dollar in the high 90's but a pretty good buy just the same.

Thank goodness it's not raining today.

GO AWAY, GIVE ME A CHANCE TO MISS YOU

“Go away, give me a chance to miss you. Say goodbye, it will make me want to kiss you…”

A Pink fan and an ardent DVD ‘Live’ procurer I have enjoyed countless hours of her music. A slightly hoarse throat and ringing ears are usually the only side affects of a night spent lip-sinking her lyrics.

However, while singing passionately to Leave Me Alone (I’m Lonely) one evening it suddenly occurred to me that I am totally this individual (and not in a way like every woman actually believes they are Carrie from Sex in The City). I honestly am this person. I adore sharing my time with those I love, but geez I love it when they’re not there.

I need my space, that’s just who I am.

It was in the midst of this epiphany a sick feeling rose from the lowest point of my stomach and exploded out of my forehead giving me an instant headache. You know that feeling. When a new level of consciousness smacks you right between the eyes and you can’t believe it’s taken you so long to get it.

HANG ON.

Does that mean that distance is all that’s required to renew my feelings of passion? OMG! How am I only seeing this now, what’s wrong with me? I consider myself particularly introspective so this abrupt revelation comes as somewhat of a shock.

I loved them. I loved them dearly but I got bored so I happily set them free. Yes, I should have realized when I saw them with someone else and felt a slight pang of resentment but I shrugged it off as boredom with what I have now. The new version just doesn’t seem to be cutting it anymore. It never occurred to me that I actually missed them.

The good times we had together. They were so versatile, so happy to go with the flow.

Metallic heels are like that though. They go with everything, which is why I think I got bored with them in the first place, but on the gorgeous friend I gave them to they look sooooo good. What was I thinking? Maybe these were the ones?

You know, the classics you wear, look after and nurture then pop back in the box for twelve months and pull out again when you’re feeling nostalgic. The ones you earmark for your first born daughter because they’re utterly destined to become vintage must-haves.

What if I’ve let ‘the ones’ get away? Oh, Manolo, can you ever forgive me?

This exposé of my emotional behaviour has made me realize that we women are a little like 7 year olds. My mother keeps telling me to rotate my child’s toys by packing up one third of them and hiding them away, only to return them to her six months later and see her embrace them with renewed vigor.

I survey my over-the-top purpose built shoe storage and cast aside my favourites, for now. Digging deep in each rung, I reach into the melancholy depths and haul out a selection of dust covered shoe bags. Oh, the exhilaration of it all. Trips to Italy, shopping sprees in Melbourne, cheeky strappy sandals in sensible beige – Ah, the memories…

Flinging off the Chloe ballerinas that are my current wardrobe staple, I slide on the 9cm heeled beige strappy sandals. I feel a smile creep across my face as I recall wearing them some years ago and a good male friend telling me that only I could find sexy strappy sandals in sensible beige.

Black 2004 Gucci runway platforms peek out from beneath black and silver dust covers. With 87 people on the waiting list for these shoes in Sydney I walked straight up to the Gucci Boutique in Waikiki and walked out with them on my feet. A little overdressed but exhilarated.

Memories good and bad come with these unintentionally archived objects. I find myself completely in love for a second time.

Some of my current favourites are rotated to the back and the old / new ones given pride of place once again. Stimulating ideas for wardrobe choice over the next week the old guard has rehabilitated many other discharged wardrobe items. I feel good. Fresh. Revitalized. Externally Spring cleaned almost.

So. I presume with that theory well and truly proven, there is one last thing for me to do.

I should probably duck off and attempt to rotate my daughter’s toys.
